Corvid Whimsey

All in black
With feathers lustrous
So misaligned
By those oblivious

A reputation justly unearned
As death’s messenger
Courier of bad tidings
Omen unwelcome

Discover
Intelligent bright eyes
One life mate
Simple being

Companionable flock
An unkindness of ravens?
A murder of crows?
Ignorantly, unmindfully called

Curious, inquisitive
Hecklers with raucous cries
Superb at maneuvers
Masters of flight

Most perfect of corvids
Whimsical creatures
Emissaries of joy
And delight

Terry, written from heart and scribe by the fingers on a keyboard. Now that's love! Beautiful.

"Emissaries of joy
And delight"

A wonderful turn of phrase! Good stuff Terry. :-)

Terry, that is an incredible poem. Insightful and enlightening.
So beautifully worded.
You do have a gift.

I'll be back this afternoon to catch up on all that I'm missing here.

Thank you again for your visits to my world. Your words always seem to have a deeper meaning and offer up straw of hope to grasp tightly.
Much love to you.

ohmygosh, this is just wonderful, Terry! Brilliant, I would have to add too.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I don't write much anymore, especially poetry. But the mood struck so I went with it. Besides, all of you are so creative and talented, you inspired (prodded) me to lift the pen. Things not used get rusty. You guys are so nice to come by.

Autumn Storm said...

Not that you've jumped back in the saddle, so to speak, we'll be expecting to be delighted often!

oh no - pressure! I have been harboring a secret desire for many years - and I've been trying to take the plunge to take a class. Registration is on Thursday (tomorrow). I've always loved ceramics, both sculpture and the wheel, and dabbled in it during high school but never pursued it later. Now, I have a fear. I think I will look stupid. Hell, I know it shouldn't matter, I just wish I could practice it in secret and see if there is anything creative there. Silly situation, but I'm having trouble getting past it. "Oh look at Grandma playing with clay!" I'm embarrassed about my fear. Seriously, I think I'm too old for this.

Autumn Storm said...

Age has nothing to do with trying new things or exploring new hobbies.
You must go register tomorrow!
Understand the fear though, but you just have to push it to the back of your mind and just do it.
I doubt you'll regret it.
Best of luck, you must take pictures of your work and post it here, so we can see.
Anyone who can write like you do has a artist's soul, I'd be willing to bet you'll knock out something wonderful, and even if you don't, you'd have done something you've always wanted to do and hopefully had a lot of fun in the process.
Hugs,
and goodnight, off to bed soon, x

:-) Thanks Autumn. Your encouragement gives me determination.

Nighty night.

Sorry about the headache - hmmmm, brandy in small, measured quantities has been known to help (measuring cup not being a tumbler). I'm off to Tracey's.

Autumn Storm said...

For headaches?! never ever heard that before, one would think alcohol would worsen it, esp. since I very, very rarely drink, a sip of brandy and I'd be legless lol

tsduff said...

LOL, legless! Ha ha. The thought is that a small amount will relax and ease tension, thus making the headache vanish. It is nice in a coffee too.

tsduff said...

However, "legless" is a step closer to sleep :-D

We bought a used potter's wheel a few months ago, since I haven't done any pottery for 20 years either. I'm 46, but I must say I stopped believing in aging long ago. I don't feel any different, just have seen alot more and formed new insights. We have to rebuild our shed to make a studio, and I don't know when that's going to happen, but I'm one step closer anyway.

Are those ravens, specifically? It's been so long since I've seen black crows. Here, the crows are grey hooded.

tsduff said...

Jeanne,

I love hearing about the used potter's wheel. There's hope for me yet! I'm still a nose under 50; LOL, how did that even happen? I don't really feel any different either :-D

I've pictured both American Crows and Ravens here... Crows are smaller and have a wedge shaped tail whereas Ravens have a diamond shaped tail and a lovely roman "nose". Perhaps you have rooks where you live. I've never seen a grey hooded crow.

Don't laugh Tracey! Last time he was in Florida, I watched Ghost alone, and when that scene came on... well, I was a goner in dreams... :-D

Autumn Storm said...

Absolutely, forget all the other good reasons, this one is more than enough :-D

tsduff said...

Okay - so it's done. I'll be playing with clay every Wednesday night from January to March. We shall see what masterpieces lurk within this bird woman yet.

Autumn Storm said...

Yey! Good on you - look forward to seeing some of your creations, x

tsduff said...

You inspired me as well Autumn, by posting your own paintings for us to admire. Remember though, I'm a beginner so hope you are prepared to see a coil construction bowl first off, LOL. I'm actually beginning to look forward to this!

Autumn Storm said...

:-)
Was (sorry for the lang.) crapping myself each time, but forced myself and you guys have been so nice and encouraging, its now one of my favourite hobbies.
So glad you are excited,
and practise makes perfect! In no time at all, I'll wager you will be knocking out masterpieces and thrilling us no end.
Hugs for facing your fears :-)

tsduff said...

Well, don't hold your breath. Haven't really finished facing the fear yet, LOL! Just wait until after my first class when I can begin to breathe a little bit again.

thrilling us no end ha ha surely you jest! :-D

Autumn Storm said...

Nope, bona fide prediction :o)

Jeanne said...

We have rooks near here, and a good number of ravens right here. The hooded crows are grey with black wings and hoods. Then we have a smaller corvid called Kaja, which isgreyish black with a grey head.

Keshi said...

I dun like crows..they scare me lol...especially magpies...

Quite a profound write-up...

Keshi.

tsduff said...

Jeanne, your rooks, ravens and crows sound cool - I'd love to see them. I would especially like to see the Kaja - which I've never heard of before. Perhaps it is like a blue jay in size? I love them all :-D

tsduff said...

Hi Keshi -
LOL you don't like magpies? You just don't know them :-D Do you brown or yellow billed magpies in Australia? Thanks for dropping by - have a great day.

Kaja is Jackdaw, I've found out. Here:
