Walking out on the porch I surprised a pair of skunks
raiding the cat food. I don't know who was more startled -
me or the little guys...

Not a suprise I'd like to greet! Good thing you didn't get sprayed!
Are they French cats, like Pepe Le Pew.
Ya gotta love 'em skunks! We don't have any in Butte (elevation) but I grew up with them and see them along the rivers here. I've found them to be smart and VERY curious, and not prown to spray unless aggravated. Your catfood story reminded me of a Grandma Beryl story (from Bradford PA): she was putting out a little dish of milk for her outdoor cat early one morning, reached down and gave it a headscratch, and only then realized it was a skunk.
I hope the legs carrying you away were faster than your shutter finger Terry!
From Crow butts below to skunk butts above you have a real butt thing going...
Uninvited guests at a picnic? Did you take these photos.
We often drive through an area where a skunk has sprayed...*secret,don't tell anyone* I actually like the smell...although I don't want it on me :)
yikes!!!! were you that close or did you just zoom in like crazy?
Ranger Tom - but they are so cute! (I can only say that because they didn't spray me LOL)
Yes Tom - they ARE like Pepe La Pew
:) Only they don't speak in French (it is a really bad screeching noise) and they aren't romantic at all.
Actonbell - But they are such cute little critters - I can't NOT get their photos! How was I to know that one would spin around to show me his arse!?
EcoRover: LOL!!! I have a cousin Beryl, and this is something she would do LOLOL!! Thanks for the lovely story - it made my day :)
The Walking Man - have to say that my interest and fascination took me closer than probably I should have gone... are they not amazing? I was wondering if skunks "spray" on each other... none of them seemed to do so though they had a whole lot of fierce (and very loud shoving matches over the cat food...
Monkey Bear - hmmm, maybe I've finally hit upon my theme LOL
...though who could have known that the skunk would show me his/her butt too LOLOL
Mo'a - have to say you are not alone, as my middle daughter Hannah has always told me she loves that smell.... BLEAH I can't deal with it at all, and on hot summer nights (LIKE NOW) when my un-air conditioned bedroom is languishing and I HAVE to keep the windows wide open,.. inevitably a skunk comes by with his/her own smelly eau de parfum to kill my nose...I took those piccies right on my front porch a few nights ago...
Lime - bummer, one of the things about my camera is that it doesn't have much of a zoom... a REAL bummer for a birder like myself. But hey - those skunks sure look great - they were a whole 2 yards away... and in living color - smellovision! :D
I sure hope you didn't startle them too bad....
Found you through the "decide box"
Stopping by to give a little blog ♥
man you are fearless...
you were just asking
for it, girl...!
happy birthday
to the travelling Bear...
those Moonchildren...
they just do
whatever they want!
more at my place!
xo
pick em up by the tail, as long as the legs aren't touching the ground, the can't spray ;) lol
Ewwwwwww....SKUNKS! We get them out here all the time! Bailey was nailed by one last year when we were in WI....it took FOREVER to get that smell out of our house and off the dog. Not even the masengil worked...ugh!
Oh dear, did you duck or were they still skipping kittens (and therefore not old enough to spray)?
LOL TERRY! Love your skunk pix! Their tails look so soft and feathery, but I sure don't care for their aroma! Don't stop your blogging because it's one of my favorite ways to catch up and see what's going on in your world!
Love you,
Kelly :D
Rabbit rabbit, skunk skunk and heck no!
A happy and well photographed August to you and the Bear.
