Give Yourself To Love
by Kate Wolf

Kind friends all gathered 'round, there's something I would say:
That what brings us together here has blessed us all today.
Love has made a circle that holds us all inside;
Where strangers are as family, loneliness can't hide.

You must give yourself to love if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

I've walked these mountains in the rain and learned to love the wind;
I've been up before the sunrise to watch the day begin.
I always knew I'd find you, though I never did know how;
Like sunshine on a cloudy day, you stand before me now.

So give yourself to love if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

Love is born in fire; it's planted like a seed.
Love can't give you everything, but it gives you what you need.
And love comes when you're ready, love comes when you're afraid;
It'll be your greatest teacher, the best friend you have made.

So give yourself to if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

Give yourself to love, if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

I first heard this song at my cousin's wedding a year ago in the Mendocino redwoods. The words are so poignant - especially

I always knew I'd find you, though I never did know how;
Like sunshine on a cloudy day, you stand before me now.

I agree that those are the lines that brush against truth. It's as though we KNOW what's true and real somewhere inaccessable, and recognize it when it is all of a sudden there in a song, or a film, etc. Have you heard the song "Genesis", by Jorma Kaukonen (used to be in Jefferson Airplane)? It has that effect on me.

There are the words, but the guitar playing is essential too.

I'm speachless. That is just beautiful.

You and your dear one are in my heart. I sincerely hope he's doing well, and I'm assured by the knowledge that your arms are the safest place he could be.

Love to you both.

Jeanne - I don't know the song, but when I read the lyrics I was immensely moved. It seems to describe the way it is in my current relationship. Wow. I would like to hear the music too -
I saved the words so I can share them with my Bear at a later date. He is bereaved right now.

You seem to have a knack for good references on films and music. (I haven't seen Grand Canyon yet but I will).

Agnes, thanks for the comforting thoughts. You are so lovable and comforting right now, even in your own grief you have deep arms. I'm so glad to have met you through these blogs.
