Swimming in the New Year

Brought in the New Year just swimmingly Shark. Spent the New Year with friends in Paradise, CA which was wonderful. Came home to face reality - failed sump pump in the basement which allowed 4-5 feet of water to flood everything. Water heater and furnace both out - brrrr. The worst part is that my basement foundation retaining wall, which was in poor shape before, is now crumbling and threatening to completely collapse. I think what is going to happen is that I must jack up my house and have a new foundation built. Since the wall failure is imminent- a mudslide has poured out through the cracked up cement and is up against my furnace - it must be sooner rather than later. Oh, what the heck - what is a few 10's of thousands of dollars to save my investment on the old homestead... tee hee. I think it is time to buy a lotto ticket... Well, I would have greatly preferred this to happen in the summer when I won't miss the heater so terribly, but then that smacks of that Aesop's Fable of the Grasshopper and the Ant - you know the one, where the grasshopper just puts everything off while the ants take care of everything during the summer. When the winter closes in, the ants are safe and snug in their house, while the grasshopper freezes to death because he sang and danced the summer away. Hmmm - I can definitely see a correlation here ...

Oh Terry, so sorry to hear of this. Sending what little good karma I've been saving your way. When you start smiling for no good reason you'll know that you got it. Godspeed my friend.

Hey Jeanne - didn't miss your comment - just slow to respond :-D I left you one.

Slow but steady wins the race - the sun is out today and things are looking better :-D

Hi Autumn - looking forward to getting around to reading everybody's blogs which I've missed out on the past week! I feel like I've been away for ages. Still got lots of "stuff" to work out about my house, but Hallelujah we got the heat turned on last night! Dug out the mud, found a dead rat (ugh) floating inside the waterfilled furnace, but now it is clean. Amazing what a teensy bit of heat can do to cheer one up :-D

HA HA ~A~
- if I thought the Valium would help I'd down it like candy. (Unfortunately I would just snooze through the next flooding episode I'm sure) :-D

Trée my friend,
Is THAT why I felt so much better today than yesterday? That is powerful stuff you sent my way :-D

My heartfelt thanks for the good karma :-)

Ah Tracey my friend, I'm doing better. G is here, and like the big bear that he is, has lent his strong presence to the situation. He came and was my hero - mucking out the mud, draining out the mud and gross water from the furnace intake and waterheater bottom (with dead rat corpse in it), installing 2 clean filters and finally lighting the furnace!!!

Jacking up the house is a whole other matter - but it is still way too soggy to deal with that at the moment. At least the sun is shining today, yippee.

Hi Trace - dragging a little today. Furnace still not working right - got the $$ furnace man coming over later today to tell me the damage. Had a court date this morning with my grandson regarding custody issues which went okay. Ever get that feeling like life is just a little bit careening out of control? (LOL - you wouldn't know anything about that.... ha ha ha) I've had a few days of it, and I'm ready to seize control again.

Keshi - thank you so much for the sunny smiles - it helps! Somehow with a bit of sun everything is so much better :-D

Can't wait to hear all about your day at school :-D (you sound quite calm - guess all the beach time did you good :-D) I'll look for the other link.

Why can't it just be Saturday already!? I'm dying because it is just gorgeous outside -and I'm inside :-(.

The big show is this weekend, and all the band guys are coming into town. What a headache and a half - ha ha ask me Monday if I'm still sane.
