Viking Women

We come in many shapes and sizes.

We are known for being brave, fearless, enduring, courageous and strong.

We aren't afraid to live without the usual comforts in life.

We don't always fit the stereotype which has been made up in the mythology books.

Here is my official claim to Vikingdom. Cool eh? Too bad I can't read it, as it is all in Icelandic!

I don't fit any mold at all about being a viking woman. I just like the idea :-)

that is funny! vikingdom...
i know, you just want to wear
the Madonna bra
and those horns....
maybe its the accessories...

when you go to Iceland
how long will you be staying?
or did you decide to move there?
thats quite the move...
and yes, a bit of a climate change
from california...!

Ha ha - Trace, well, you have a LONG time before you grow up so don't plan on it :-D in the near future. Do you ever read Rose is Rose? She turns into a biker woman (a HOT biker woman) when the mundane world closes in. My bike provides my alter ego, and perhaps it IS my modern viking escape :-)

Cough, choke, sputter.... auuughhh Lisa I can't even talk after reading that.... I do not (LET ME REPEAT) DO NOT want to wear the madonna bra... gag ... wouldn't fit anyway). I think hers had zilch to do with vikings...

I like the helmets with wings actually :-)

I will be in Iceland for 15 long lovely days... I know they will blow by like the wind. Don't really have a clue if I would actually pull off moving there. There is a language barrier, which in turn would make getting employment difficult, to say the least. I also own a house here with entanglements which would be hard to shrug off in an expedient manner, not to mention the fact that I would be a green card holder with an end in sight to my stay unless I was married and employed... who knows. My kids aren't keen on me taking such a far-away jaunt either. But, on the other hand, I have been exploring the possibility in my dreams quite often. The future is wide open. The handsome Icelander I hang out with tempts me every day.

With that beautiful long, flowing wild hair of yours, you already look like a viking, and you have a certificate - how cool is that! lol at the Madonna bra :-D

Vikingdom...How cool! Don't know why I was scared of vikings as a child. I think they're so cool now. They're actually a part of my background, too. :)

You don't have to call me OD anymore...It's Julie.

Autumn - nice thought... but don't vikings have blonde or red hair? :-D

madonna is Italian/ny... no viking blood there. Bleah to those kind of cones. GROSS!!!!!!

Julie - I knew there was a reason I liked you (LOL other than the cool places and things you always post). That is my sister's name. So very much nicer than OD :-D Maybe you were afraid of vikings because the image that history and the media cultivates is one of violence, mayhem, rape and plunder... (hmmmmm, was there maybe ah, some truth to those images?) not so nice attributes (do you ever read Hagar the Horrible? LOL) Supposedly, I am bastard descendent of a viking princess - whatever the hell that means... my grandma was heavily into geneaology and this was from her side of the family. The Danish side. I think it's cool. Didn't get the lovely blonde or red hair, or blue eyes like my sister, but I did get the strength, (physical as well as character) perserverence, courage and all that jazz :-) Good peasant stock :-D

I wanna be a viking too but most of the time I am pretty wimpy. Darn it!!!

Nah, that's just a myth :-D

I like Frank Frazetta's versions of Viking women...

i'm kind of getting
that you're not digging
the cone bra concept?
(or madonna for that matter!!)
hey, somebody's gotta wear that thang
might as well be her!
besides, shes the only one
who can pull it off...
er, you know what i mean...
okay, back to vikingdom!
Iceland will be an awesome trip
and life is full of surprises and all,
but something tells me
you really suit living in california
at least as your home base....

Dropped in to check on you and I see you are pulling up all your strength reserves...and they appear to be many. Great, intense power flowing through those veins.

Love the certificate. Please have it translate. LOL You don't want to find out that Heidursvikingur means wussy viking woman, right? (kidding)

Happy Monday.

"wussy viking woman" :-D

Happy Monday, Terry the Viking, hope you have a great day! x

Very cool!! Darn it, I want to be a viking woman too!! :D

tsduff said...

HA HA - Agnes - actually, since I was there when the certificate was presented (by "real" viking men) they told me the translation at the time... something about I don't have to do dishes, or other menial work, etc etc. All good stuff :-D No such thing as a wussy viking!!!!

Cheers to brave, strong smart women everywhere!
(I'm partial to the cool helmets, myself!)

Hello Honorary Viking!!!!!!.....I could not read much of what it said, but I saw something about Hafnafjordur, so now I know where you were given this honor!!!! Have never been there myself, but like the building and the concept.
37 days to go...... :)

Minka said...

Hmm...if you send me a larger picture I could probably translate it for you!

Minka said...

Móa, I clicked on the pic and made it bigger...it says nothing about Hafnafjördur. Thank goodness! The paper make syou an honoury Viking, by showing your bloodline related to some area in Iceland and therefore offers you the protection of all our Gods :) Or something like that!

tsduff said...

Thanks Minka, for the loose translation! I had fun when I was there, and in fact received that in Hafnarfjordur. Don't know about your Gods, but the whole thing was a lark. According to Grandma, I actually do have some lineage to vikings, but it goes way back to the Denmark side of the family. Thanks for popping in :-)
