A HAH! Where, you might ask, is the accustomed picture of Iceland? What is going on around here? The travel bug has bitten hard, and things are going wildly out of control!

BAKER STREET

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese

You know, where Sherlock and his pal Watson used to hang out? (insert soothing strains of the violin)...

Guess where I'm going?

Just a hop across the pond, to meet a friend I've only known through the internet waves as of yet.

A mixing of culture, background, heritage... and fun! I'm here to tell you that the "wild hair" theory has some truth to it. What started out in the rough planning stage as a quick trip from Iceland over to Amsterdam, soon morphed into Copenhagen, and now after all that, it has ended up instead to be London for a day... can you believe it?! Just how much can we cram into one evening, and one full day? I'll let you know.

Right now I'm hurridly researching the favorite haunts of London, with the help of our dear Autumn who (doesn't know what she has gotten herself into LOL) has so very graciously opted to host us all around. Hmmm - what do I know about Britain? Does Monty Python live there? Will I see Benny Hill, or the Young Ones? Ahem, the culture, yes, mustn't miss out on that! The Bear and I will be practicing our cockney accents very soon. (That's a funny picture, don't you think? Two beary hippies loose in London!)

A grand ole time, we shall have ourselves, for sure. I'm so excited, I can't even speak! (luckily I can still type - lol see, how silly, sure sign)

Cool a giant water wheel(ha ha) on the river Thames--wonder what time "they"start it up in the morning--the rush that lasts all day--thats what I see here--am game.

You sure are flexible when it comes to changes :)
London is fabulous.
I wne tthere with a friend and did all teh Tourist stuff. The london Dungeon did not impress me as much.
I think I liked Westminster Abbey, a Shakespeare play at the globe and a ride on the double-decker best :)
I took a wonderful tour in the evening. It was a Jack teh Ripper tour, where we followed his trails in the murky evening. The group stopped at quite a few bars on our way and it became hilarious in teh end ;)

Welcome Ms Bell... nice to see you here. I happen to like your coffee cup :-) My raven is just an extension of one of my bird personalities... I love crows, jays, ravens - the lot of them! I love Poe too :-) but his raven was scary. Mark Twain and I share a birthday... and I think he was one of the world's smartest, funniest people. Thanks for dropping by.

Mo'a - How cool to go to school in London. Did some of the English accent begin to creep into your own? I love it!

AUTUMN!!!! I CAN'T WAIT! AUUUGGHHHH what a trip! G is just laughing, because he thought HE was the spontaneous, adventurous one of us... HA HA. This one is really flying by the seat of our pants :-D He agreed with you - we shall rest when back in California... until then, we party, starting July 3 at 7:50pm...

Hi Keshi - happy Thursday! (It IS Thursday already in Australia, isn't it?)

tsduff said...

Jeanne - Cheer up Charlie - we plan to travel the world :-D (you never know when and where we will pop up! WE don't even know it!) OR, perhaps you are in need of a trip to sunny California... you can get dirty knees in our garden :-D

Mr. River - can you imagine the view from such a monster? We shall have fun and screams to last all day! :-)

Monika,
I think that the Jack the Ripper tour sounds fabulous! I like that stuff - was properly scared many years ago when in my "mystery reading" stage I read about that murderer...in the London fog... *shivers* I like the way your tour had its own fun style at the end :-D

I rode a double decker in Ireland - scared me to death as I was in front, on the top, and the driver all but killed us with speed around the corners...

A ha! I know how to pronounce that, but thought it was spelled differently. I also love seeing the lava of that sort described in person, but it is quite difficult to walk on.

:-D! Good man G! I'm counting the days and am constantly hyper with excitement lol

Map
You can right click on any area to get a closer view.
Near the top, there is a green area, once you get closer you can see Baker St. station and the surrounding area, look for Gloucester Place - that's where you'll be staying (all booked).

Argh! I was doing a crossword puzzle the other day and I couldn't remember the name of the street that Sherlock Holmes lived on. I kept thinking Bond Street.

with the coolest hostess and the finest
beary hippies!! what fun! y'all must be
SO excited! ha!

Autumn, thanks for the map! We sat around the campfire in the garden last night and talked about our trip. G decided he wants to hit the "giant water wheel" first thing in the morning to get the day started with a charge to last all day :-) Natural terror, he called it...

Terry, too cool that you used William Smith's map up top. That's actually something I'd like to see if I were going to London. I think it's hanging at the Royal Geological Society.

Doug The Una said...

Yes, I'm a huge dork. Why do you ask?

Doug The Una said...

Never mind, the map didn't fully load and I mistook it. But I still would like to see Smith's.

Wow, a huge dork with no eye for details.

Sad.

Autumn Storm said...

Sounds like a plan :-D

tsduff said...

You do know, don't you, the definition of a dork? Giggle

Wow, my comment went through last night, I see. That's the only one of the many that I tried to leave that did. What's eating blogger these days, seems like he's been in a mood on and off for 4-5 days!

Am behind on making you that list too, Terry, apologuies, have had a lot of unplanned stuff come up these last 2 days. Will get on it asap, find out what time the wheel starts turning etc and get back to you with a suggestion for how we should go about filling up the hours to the brim :-)

Did I mention how excited I am? :-D
More happy dance...

OK, one eye for details.

Trace - we shall lift a pint with your name on it :-D (Do they have umbrella drinks in an English pub?)

Autumn, yesterday I tried in complete exasperation to leave many comments, and finally gave up. We have got to get back to planning the Iceland portion of our trip... we've been thinking about London exclusively... which is pretty funny since we really only have one full day there!! Go figure. The hotel looks splendid - we are thrilled :-)
THANK YOU!

Doug - ;-D

Autumn Storm said...

lol, too funny - guess its something to do with one day versus so much to do. You plan Iceland, I'll plan London, and all you'll have to do is approve :-)

More happy dance...

The museum of natural history sounds nice - although I know it would be a huge time eater.

I think I'll go crazy with all those loverly accents around me :-D
