I'm going camping, nanner nanner nanner...

Can you smell the woodsmoke and see it curling through the morning sunlit trees?

Can you hear the laughter of little cousins as they dip their toes into the river's edge?

Do your ears pick up the lovely sweet song of the hidden woodthrush, and the harsh call of the stellars jay as he boldly looks for treats at the edge of camp?

As you lay back on your sleeping bag warmed by the sun, do you hear the wind roaring through the tops of the pines, reminiscent of the river's rush over the boulders?

Surrounded by friends and family, can you picture holding your marshmallow out over the coals to roast into a gooey delight?

Maybe you can tell I'm so excited! I'm taking off a whole day Friday to head for the hills! Can't hardly wait at all. It has been a long time since I've done family camping trip... too long.

Have fun and then come back and tell us all about it so that we may live vicariously through your adventures. :-)

Trée - You live vicariously ANYWAY! Thanks, and can you tell I'm excited? Time to get dirty, play in the river, smell the pines, sing around the campfire... eat outside, (can't forget the shovel either!) I can't wait til tomorrow!

Keshi - yes, I'm a lucky gal. Don't you ever go camping? There in the outback?

RT-I knew you would be :-) I'll eat a trout for you.

Tai - I'll eat a marshmallow, and some chocolate & graham crackers too (s'mores you know...)

I want to come! Seriously! My family were never the camping type and then to top it all off we lived in London, never leaving any other way than by plane, so although I've done a little camping solo, not nearly as much as I would like. I have this whole daydream going (keep getting to many of those recently :) about going on a romantic camping trip, sleeping under the stars - hmm, perhaps it was your shopping for a double sleeping bag that started putting that thought in my mind, just sounded so very, very cosy and wonderful and free. Have an absolutely fabulous time and as T said, come back and tell us all about it. :-)

ooh you make it sound so enticing...
i too, never came from a family of campers
but if you go with experienced camping types
its such a pleasure...
it will also be very grounding for you
at this time, Terry, so enjoy all the gifts
that mother nature has for you...
i could dig something like that
right about now...
