Terry, I'm glad you posted this pic:
1 - to see the strange bunch of reactions to something similar that Eric Paris DP posted on Sunday 12 Nov,clearly there are people out there who'd prefer to keep their eyes tightly shut to life's more ugly, disagrreable realities that spoil the view ib their rose-tinted glasses. I am not one of them. good on you that you aren't either.
2 - I'm planning to post something along this line in a couple of weeks, a year after I took the pic in question. It is strong & has never been far from my mind since I saw it. It's going to be an international co.production with Mar of Barcelona.
Since when is Blogland only for the pretty, clean stuff?
PS - I'm not selling. My friends who own the place I live in are. Where 2 next....? California?

Oh gosh, this picture is as hard to look at as it should be.

Terry, you are wonderful, simply. Happy Thanksgiving, xoxo

CozyMama said...

that is hard to look at, but knowing that I am the one that organized the food drive at work I feel a little better knowing that I am helping people like this.

Very true and so sad. :*( God bless all those people out there who pull together food drives and serve dinners over the holidays to give the less fortunate something to be thankful for.

OH, so sad....

Oh my God...that slaps you right in teh face, doesn´t it?

boy....it almost feels wrong to wish you Happy Thanksgiving now...I just wish "happy" instead to each and everyone. Something to smile about!

I saw this a lot when I was walking down the River Thames.

This picture had stuck in my mind, they do that, on a page as here or in life. Some faces just never go away. It reminds me especially of two men that I saw in Malaysia last year, mostly because on the day I just didn't have very much money on me and they've haunted my thoughts ever since, the guilt basically, which is rediculous I know, but I can't help feeling that way, wondering why I got to be so lucky while others suffer and are often without the bare necessities. Just wanted to say once again, that this was a powerful post.

Thinking of you, missing you, see you soon, xo

ya, it really gets you in the gut.
there are many people
you dont even see in a photo,
whose story
we never even hear about,
who suffer in darkness,
alone
hungry, scared, sick, broke,
no one to love them
or care for them.
how did the world get
so unbalanced?
what could we do
to help change it?

Hi, first timer around these parts.

Besides repeating what others have said (about being Thankful and just how power a pic this is) I plan to refer occasionally back to this picture as a reminder of how lucky we are to be able to feed ourselves and our families. It's easy to forget when things are going well.

sorry about signing in as "anonymous"; had to because I'm on beta.

This just breaks my heart.

Terry, I've been trying to phone baby bear, but it seems that the line is no longer in use, at least that's what I presume from the message that I am getting. Perhaps she has a new number that you could email me?
XOXO

tsduff said...

Autumn - she does have another number I believe - I'll send you an email when I have a moment :-)

Meg, Jillie, Mo'a, Keshi, Miz B... - hope your holidays were good (if you celebrated them). I posted this picture last year at the same time, because it just grips my heart in a huge way. I take so much for granted that it is a picture I need to look at every single day. I gripe about the most trivial, meaningless things, I know.

tsduff said...

Trée awe thanks. It isn't about me.

Autumn - did you have a fun ordinary weekend in London? Can't imagine no Thanksgiving... surely you must have something similar sometime over there?

Jodes - I think those folks who are able to reach out and give of their own time, money, efforts and love are the ones who know how to celebrate Thanksgiving properly. It is neat that you are one of them.

OG - yes, and an extra blessing as well on those poor folks with nothing to look forward to every day of the year, not just one Thursday in November.

Hey Sherri - I hope things are going better for you since I last checked in over there. Hugs.

tsduff said...

Thanks Meg - Hope your Turkey Day was great :-)

Lisa - yo! Happy Canadian what-ever-you-do-on-Turkey-Day to you! Missed you!

Doug - we had a cute Beagle visiting with us at the cabin for the holiday - I'm a passionate fan of those little guys who live to eat (and sniff):-D His name was Snoopy. Oh, and we ran out of poptarts.

tsduff said...

Kyahgirl - Hope you had fun away up there on your weekend (Do Canadians have fun on Thanksgiving?)

tsduff said...

Minka - that image does make one feel enormous empathy for those in that boat. Are there many homeless in Iceland? I bet not during the winter - it is a wee bit colder there than in the bay area here. Thanks for the "happy" :-)

tsduff said...

Lindsey - I suppose there are homeless struggling all over the world - and always will be. I didn't see much of it when I was along the Thames, but there were millions of people milling around so I probably missed them on the edges.

tsduff said...

Autumn - I have a few of those "memories" seared into my brain as well. One was an angelic homeless lady who asked for money as I came out of a store from Christmas shopping. I turned her down - (I had no change) and her response was "May God Bless you". As I got into my car, I felt so strongly about it that I went to a next door Burger King, bought several hamburgers, fries, and hot coffee, and went back to find her. She was gone. I always wonder what happened to her.

tsduff said...

Lisa - you said it all. To change it, we have to do it one person at a time. One smile at a time - one prayer at a time.

tsduff said...

Pavel - welcome! Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comment - as you live so far away but hold the same feelings about the situation as others in this part of the world. It is easy to forget how lucky I am to have a paycheck - a home, a family who loves each other... seeing it jars a person to remember.

tsduff said...

Crazy Me - so nice to see you back! (almost gave up on you for a bit after your great time in Mexico :-D) You went to those marathon shopping sales? GIRL! I would never survive such an outing :-)

tsduff said...

Autumn - see reply first off. I'm working on that phone - also the pub where she works. Wonder if you know it? Mabel's Tavern or some such thing. Grin - Mabel was my Grandma's name.

Autumn Storm said...

Terry, I don't know the pub, but I could find it, I'm sure. :-) Email me the number if/when you can, that way I won't show up on her day-off.

An excellent photo. i ache for both of them.

one thing for sure, that pup knows he's loved. no matter what's happening or how hungry he is. that man loves him.
