Some things are too sad to bear.
Had my brand new not-even-one-week-old camera in my tote bag, on the way to work. I stopped in the garage to feed the cat and not wanting to compromise a lack of enough hands-free, I set my purse and the tote bag carefully down on the table. As I turned to get the cat food - WHAM... over falls my tote bag, and out rolls the camera, all the way to the cement floor.
My scream still ringing in my ears, I bent to pick up my poor new toy. Hmmm, lens cap still on, only a scratch... looked okay in the cursory glance. I put it around my neck, carefully got into the car and drove to work. Being slammed with work, I felt awful, but didn't get the camera out to play with it. So, later on I was driving home for lunch, and at the stop sign, just reached in and pulled it out to check on it again. To my horror, I saw that the once perfectly round lens/focus zoom was not round... it was out of round. CRUSHED you might say. My camera had fallen on it's lens, and the impact had smashed the focus device into itself, making it impossible to turn one way or the other. It's dead Jim.
If there is any happy ending here, it is the fact that I forewent the opportunity to buy a cheaper package at Costco, and went to the camera store for my purchase. At the time I bought the camera, I also bought a 10 month replacement warranty, in case of catastrophic damage. Call it a 6th sense (or just a visceral fear of spending so much money and no insurance), but I needed it. I just didn't expect to be using it within the first 4 days of bring home the baby! Today I will take it in, with great embarassment and shame, and see what happens.

I feel your pain. Your heart stops when you see your camera like that.
I too feel your pain.... It's a canon so the focus mechanism is in the lens itself. If everything else is fine, you just need a new lens.
Of course with the price of lenses I can understand why you would still cry! :)
I hate when that happens, and it has happened too many times to me in the past. Hope the warrenty covers it all.
Wow, that sucks! You were really on the ball to buy that insurance. I would never have bought that. ACK!
oh god. that made my heart hurt. thank god you got the insurance to replace it. i can't wait to hear what they say to you.
oh i gasped upon seeing the picture. sooo glad you got that special warranty!
Totally UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! What a horrible freak accident!!!! I do so hope your warranty covers both the lens and the camera. I'm so sad for you at your loss, but I will rejoice with you once again when you get your new camera (or lens) or whatever. :D Love Me
Oh, I was so heartbroken for you when I saw the picture. Thank goodness you had the foresight to get insurance.
*GASP*! HORRIFIC!!! Never seen this image in real-life *cross fingers* The virtual image feels shocking enough! I hope it's only the lens that needs replacing, although that is really 'The Camera'.
Oh man, I thought I was the only one that ever did stuff like that. When it does happen, it's almost in slow motion. AAAAKKKKKK!!!!
Good thing your sixth sense was kicking it to buy the insurance. I'll have to remember that. Whew!
;o)
Oooo. Painful. Still, I hope all goes well with getting a replacement.
so sorry, at least you didn't leave it behind the car and then run over it.
