I wonder sometimes if I would enjoy the life of a lighthouse keeper. Many things about it intrigue me - solitude, the sea just outside my door... I suppose there is alot of hard physical labor required which doesn't really thrill me. But it is makes nice day dream material.

This looks like the opening scene for a movie. I like the solitary feel. Sometimes I long for that myself, but I think I need people to charge my battery.
Really nice shot.

It would wear me out just to climb all those stairs to change the light bulb. Hey, is that a butterfly or a moth flying around that light! Cute! I think I need another cup of Java.

I could live there easily. I seldom have need for TV or radio, I am happy with novel, net and OC. Occasionally I take my camera for a walk, but solitude suits me well.

Now, I am not so sure about working there. I hate to be cold, and cold and wet is just miserable. Put the light house in Hawaii, and I'm there .....

What physical work? You mean tricking the Scooby Doo gang?

This is so beautiful I thought it was a painting. I love the dreamy lighting.

I would love the solitary life, and the smell of the ocean 24/7.

I often think about being a lighthouse keeper too. And I also fret about the hard maintenance work that must be involved.

If one can stand peaceful serenity and an occasional storm, then I think life as a lighthouse keeper would be mighty fine.

Gorgeous photo!!!

Anonymous - With your company, I would have everything I needed.

Photowannabe - Solitude is something I welcome. Of course, I would hope to have the presence of my Sweetie - but as for everyday contact I make a good hermit.

Yellowdog Granny - I think your idea is right on. What could be better than a lighthouse well stocked with a floor to ceiling bookshelf?

Tom & Icy - Maybe there would be a lift... you know, an electric one along the stairs. Yeah, the moth is always drawn to the light :)

Quilly - that lighthouse could be anywhere at all. I've seen some that are out on lonely, only accessible by helicopter or boat... and cold because of no heating. I agree that kind of cold would be not fun at all. But the fog doesn't bother me - and perhaps a good kerosene heater would suffice.

Doug = you are cracking me up with your diversity. You can crank out incredible works of prose, and without a blink of the eye, pop out references to an icon cartoon of the eighties. ha ha - well done. So many surprises locked up between those floppy ears...

Catnapping - The lighting was a result of the summer fogbank sitting right on the coast. It was a lovely day not many people out in the weather. Just the way I like it.

Lone Grey Squirrel - I think it would be a perfect outpost for a scientifically minded critter like yourself ;)

Jamie Dawn - You've just talked me into it. I'm off!

That is one amazing picture, but like some of the others, it does look like something out of a movie. Perhaps a Steven King movie where some monster comes out and eats the Lighthouse keeper...

And when you forget to turn on the light, I'll tell nobody! :-)
