Back to the beach...

Okay, if I can't have the sun, I'll dream about the gorgeous piece of lava up there next to Greenland... Iceland of course.

This photo is at Reynisdrangar, near Dyrholey in Southern Iceland. Before the beach of Vík reside three trolls which were turned into stone when they tried to get a ship at land at the point when the sun came up. They are called Reynisdrangar.

So many things to see when I'm there...

What an absolutely beautiful spot!! I'm going to go there too, when (not if) I visit :-)
Evening, Terry, hope you've had a good one!

We're going to Gotland, an island off the coast of Sweden, for a week in June. It's famous for it's "raukar", which look much like that. The southern tip of Gotland looks much like that cliff, actually, and has a troll (only one) too. I'll see if I can find a link.....

(that's the troll)
Ooh ooh ooh- I found you a whole picture show.

You know, you're making me want to take a trip to Iceland...

I think everyone should take a trip to Iceland, but I might be biased!

The south coast is one of my favorite places. Easy short trip from RVK, the black sand beach at Vík is cool and creepy, and the pizza at Halldórskaffi there is delicious (especially the Katla, or is it Hekla? Whole green peppercorns on a pizza is pretty darn good). Make sure to climb up Hjörleifshöfði if you go there, and explore the cave at the base. So cool!

The south coast of Iceland is one of my favorite places. A few years ago friends and I took a trip to Hofn....as we were planing the trip I said to the three Icelandic teenagers "You will love the beach at Vik, the sand is black" they all looked at me in strange way and one of them said "To us, it would be special if the sand were white".
Terry I love this photo. When will you be going to Iceland?

Thanks Kathi - and it's always so nice to visit your place as well with loving updates on family and soldiers. Nice to see you :-)

Annonymous - :-D

Autumn, you will love it when you go. It is just awe inspiring all the way around. I bet you will have a better handle on the language than I, with it's similarity to Danish.

Jeanne, those pictures are fabulous! I think I'll have to make a sidetrip to Sweden when I'm up that way :-) I love the scenery, and the houses & churches in the second group of photos are beautiful and quaint. I want to go! The place where you will be is lovely - lots of rocky shore to play on. I prefer that sort to the sandy beaches around here.

Tom, no trains there, but oh, so much other stuff to indulge in....the least of which is the wild, uncluttered scenery which stretches out in every direction... gloriously empty of crowds of people. I think you need to go.

Good morning my friend - Trace hope you have a great day. The picture gives you only one infinitesimal percentage of the thrill you would get seeing it in person.

E, I think everyone should take a trip to Iceland, but I might be biased!... ha ha, of course you are biased... anyone who has ever set foot on the rock must be... but I agree. Everyone SHOULD go. I can't wait to go to VIK so see the black sand beach, and the green peppercorn pizza sounds scrumptious. Thanks for the tips :-)

Moa - I adore black sand. In Hawaii that was one of my highlights, seeing volcanic black sand instead of just brown or even white. I also really like the rough, rocky cliffs. (George)Bjarni and I are going to Iceland at the end of June for 2 weeks and will celebrate a family reunion with his family. I am counting the days. We don't have any itinerary yet, but loosely plan on moseying along the ring road and also visiting the farm where his Mom grew up near Ísafjörður.
