My Baby kidnapped me over the weekend. It was glorious -

We went to the train station in Martinez - supposedly for a short jaunt up to Sacramento, and have breakfast on the train.

The rain was soggy, and there was lots of flooding out the window as we went across the valley toward the capitol.

Lots of lush green grass everywhere, covering the rolling hills and fields.

In Sacramento, we (surprise) didn't get off... stayed in our very private sleeper compartment and then had a lovely late lunch on elegantly draped white tables in the diner car.

Passing through the lower mining towns near Auburn, Colfax had quaint buildings.

We climbed the sierra foothills, and it began to snow. Emmigrants Pass was a snowy wonderland, and the train just smoothly glided by on it's rails.

I'll spare you all of the gory details of our trip home from Reno... let it suffice to say that we ended up on an Amtrack bus at 4 A.M the next morning, breaking down several times in the deep snow with chains on the bus. Our driver was the best - as good as any train engineer, and got us back safe and sound. My Bear gives me the greatest adventures I've ever had :-D

You were fed and didn't have to wear a blindfold ;), sounds like a pleasant & successful kidnapping :-D.

Sounds like a great adventure. I had no idea that Amtrack has buses....ofcourse they would need a fleet of buses to get people where they are going, when their trains breaks down.....here in my area it is a given that an Amtrack train will break down at some point. I love train travel, so romantic :)

Oooh, just like Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint in North by Northwest. Swooshing into the tunnel. Lucky you.

North by Northeast in your case. I just checked the map.

Trace, it WAS a great time :-) Trains are so cool.

Autumn, it is indeed a purely wonderful experience when I'm kidnapped by him. (This is really the first time it has ever occured - LOL) Since we both love train travel, this time was even better.

Tom, I knew you would be :-)

Mo'a,
Actually I've only been on an Amtrak bus when it broke down... the train was just fine. This bus was run by Amtrak, but connects a piece of the journey where the train wasn't scheduled. It was all fun - we weren't in any hurry. There were only two other people on the bus beside G and I :-)

Jeanne - ah yes, it WAS romantic like Cary Grant (my favorite - sigh) Lots of tunnels - no murders :-D just smiles.

ODG - when the weather is too horrible for hiking, trains beat all.

that snippet of Sacramento
cuz i think thats where
my baby flies to when he
leaves here to go back to
Stockton, so i have never
seen one little bit of it!
its so weird not knowing where he is!
sooo weird.
