Just sitting here, watching a movie with my Sweetie at home (No Country For Old Men)... when suddenly I caught a lungfull of hot, acrid, electronics-burning kind of smell. I jumped up off the couch, looking for the source, and ran into the dining room, then the kitchen. Nothing. Then, back to the livingroom, and there it was - my monitor was smoking! G dived for the tangle of plugs under the desk, and I turned the monitor off. *whew* What a stink. Well the clunky old monitor was a donated unit from friends when my last flat screen monitor gave up the ghost. So, the ending result after carting the offending smoking mess outside for burial, was no computer. I've been utterly dejected, with no way to get online to update my poor neglected blog. Thanks everyone, for not hurling sarcastic remarks, and for coming back despite no activity here.

My Bear saved the day, dragging me down to Fry's where he purchased a fabulous, state of the art widescreen flatscreen monitor. Yay. Now I'm finally back up and running - er, blogging.

Sounds like a case of electronic suicide. Were there any warning signs? Like, was your monitor listening to alot of Sarah McLachlan and Mary Chapin Carpenter? It's really too bad. Maybe when your mouse mysteriously leads you to Ingmar Bergman movies, you'll take it as a mechanical cry for help.

I plugged a monitor into a computer and it killed the computer.

Good to see you through a fabulous, state of the art widescreen flatscreen monitor! Must be why my birdie's colours are 'impossibly' beautiful today ;)

I am sorry for your old monitor but that photo is *FANTASTIC*. How many times my computer made me feel just like that.

What amazed me in No Country For Old Man was that the only man with spine and a control over his decisions was a psychopath serial killer. What a world we live in.

Wide Screen monitor? Tell the truth: How did that fire get started?

I saw No Country For Old Men last week. That's one I'll be doing lines from for a while.

Jonah K. Haslap - ha ha - no warning signs to speak of other than the fatal blue screen of death which occasionally made a fleeting appearance...Hey - I like Sarah McLachlan. Uh oh... you don't think I was responsible...

Tom and Icy - I've plugged a whole bunch of stuff into my computer, (like flash drives, camera drives etc.) and the computer killed them. That computer is a maneater.

Anonymous - I think you are right. The colors leapt out at me so strongly I had to put on my shades.

SOe - How disappointing to have a nice big flat screen and not be able to use it! Will you buy a new graphics card?

Lime - I'm thankful we were home, as it really could have been the start of a big fire. After our housefire in 1998 (candle in my daughter's room), I think my insurance company would assasinate me if I had another claim.

JJ - Marshmallows would have become toxic waste after being exposed to said smoke. My house still smells from it - even after being aired out all day. I still can't imagine what ticked it off enough to burn up like that.

Ariel - ha ha - we do have such an intimate relationship with our computers... and often tempestuous at that.

Ariel - That bad guy in the movie really had a goofy 70's haircut... and we were so relieved that he let the old guy at the garage live. What a world indeed.

Doug - psssst - Are you a spy from Liberty Mutual? I'll never tell...

Lines? Heh heh... did you mean lines or lines? Funny.

My first flat screen lasted a week. I have no idea why it died.

Terry, do you remember it, the old guy let the coin decide, the young woman said to the killer, "no, you have to make your own decision bla bla bla", and so he did. Is this when you don't realize what you're looking in the face of?

Glad to have you back but I've been slacking on this end so I have no means to complain...lol

A new graphic card? I don´t think so. I will let come my husband to Iceland. He has to fix the problem because it was his present and he knows the computer stuff better than I (+ he has patience!).

So I was thinking of going off line and no TV all summer...I don't know if I will survive. I thought maybe if I did that I could get some art work done...we will see...
