Church, on the lake near to the HUGE family reunion my Sweetie and I attended in Iceland... it was a dream place. The weather was perfect, the landscape was unimaginably beautiful, and the people/family were wonderful and so friendly to an obvious foreigner as myself. Those folks know how to put on a great time - feast, singing, fun, camping with family, humor and fun... when is the next one?

And they have their own football team! Once you make beer is legal, there's no breaks.

Stunning photograph, looks like the perfect location! How close does the 'family' have to be, to be invited ...? ;)

The picture shows clearly why the Icelanders have 45 words for "green".

On leg of my family has a reunion once every two years... another has only ever had one EVER, another has one whenever someone feels like telling the rest when to show up... (thats the most enjoyable one where we all show up at the farm and burn meat and drink whatever is available). Iceland is finally turning green again - summer is on its way!! Last night I went to bed at 1am and it was still light outside... love it

I am your ECS, does that qualify me?

Beautiful photo - the colors are so sharp and gorgeous.

It looks more like a drawing than a photo. Family reunions can be such fun.

Tom & Icy - They have lots of cans there Icy. Not to many cats though. Tom - you would love it. I think there is more snowfall in Ohio than in Reykjavik.

Ariel - That would have been a fun game of football... but we were too busy singing Icelandic Cowboy songs, and drinking wine (seems they forgot the beer), burning the meat and we plum forgot.

Photowannabe - There is no place I've laid eyes upon in my life to this point which tops Iceland's pure stark beauty. I wish I could pull off living there... my Mom always said "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride"...

Anonymous... let me tell you that the Icelanders don't descriminate between family members or not... you'd be welcome in a minute - especially if you drink or sing ;) We all had a great time, and heck, they welcomed me and I'm just a humble American...

SOe - I Love that. I would like to learn ALL the words in Icelandic for green. You have given me a new goal. (How many words do they have for lava?)

Northern Musings - I think you lead the most idyllicly desirable life ever. You live in the most beautiful place I've ever seen, you get to eat bbq'd lamb, drink Brenivin. If only I could figure out how to work out the finances, I'd be your neighbor. My most incredibly favorite visit was when the sun stayed up all night. Ahhhhhh so perfect.

ECS - you are perfectly qualified... ha ha , as if you needed any credentials... You my dear East Coast Sis have cart blanche :) Must say, you would adore the place - we were in a wooden quanset hut, surrounded by ancient boy scout maps on the walls, delicious and magnificent food offerings, and jovial singing. It didn't really matter if you were drinking or not, (most of the WERE) because everyone's enthusiasm just blanketed everyone in fun. You'd love the music.

Dr. John - this reunion was certainly the most fabulous time I've ever had at any family reunion! They know how to bbq lamb, they brought plenty of libations, they were legion, AND, when the night died down with most folks leaving, the die-hards still lingering hung around in a camper chatting and singing until the dawn... It was completely fabulous.

Fred - How fun seeing your smiling teacher face on my blog. I like teachers :) I begat one - not bad 1 out of 3, yet? It is impossible to take a bad picture of Iceland. Trust me.

Words for Lava? I have no idea. But since Iceland is the Mecca of geologists, there should be many words.

Sounds pretty perfect to me. :)

That scene is so beautiful. It's like a scene from a romantic movie.
What a delight to have seen this in person!!
