Wouldn't you rather be here than weltering away in the heat? Me too. This is where we were one week ago on the weekend... pure heaven on the rugged California coast. How on earth do people afford to live there? I'm just happy to have access once in a blue moon.

Happy happy summer.

The fires which are burning here in California are causing me huge respiratory discomfort on the rebound of this cold-that-never-went-away...but hey, that's what inhalers are for.

The GOOD news is, that these are the happy new Mom and Dad to be... my son being the one of the left who found out on Friday that they are expecting their first child! Thrilled doesn't even begin to explain how I feel :D~

You really have to come back to Iceland. Best wishes for the parents (and grandmother) to be!

Congratulations and hoping for the best for all of you!

Just curious: why did you have to specify that your son was on the left? We're just kidding around.

Anonymous - thank you for your cheerful comment. I'm just plain old Grandma - but my Sweetie is "Afi" - for Grandpa in Icelandic. Opa, Oma, Ama, Afi, Nana - so many ways to name the grandparents. They all mean LOVE :)

Lone Grey Squirrel - That's nice. I always think of Grannie on the Beverly Hill Billies when I hear that title ;)

SOe - yes, I'll be back, probably dragging the kids all along to see the most beautiful place on earth for themselves. But I think that will be after the króna finishes its dive, and gas prices peak out.

Lime - I'm content to sit back and be the Grandma, after all the stories you are still telling about your kidlets... and I remember my own kid stories. Being the Grandma is so much easier I think!

Tom & Icy - Man alive, that is funny. You sure caught me! I had to go back and re-read what I wrote - I was up far too late and mind-muddled by this dang cold, and had spent an hour trying to get my pictures to download from my camera to my new laptop. I suppose what was in my mind was trying to specify that it was my son & his wife rather than one of my two daughters who are expecting. Who the heck knows what I was thinking...I should never blog late at night LOL!!

That is beautiful, but I don't think I'd want to live there. Glad we're too far away to be getting much smoke, because our air is bad enough.

Doesn´t look good for the ISK! I don´t dare to look at any currency converter right now. And I´m so lucky that I can take the bus! I saw the gas price was 192 !!! ISK today - end of last year it was around 120.

Congratulations, Grammy! Not to go off in any weird place or anything but my first reaction to the photo before reading the caption was "She looks like her mom!"

The new, better informed Doug sees the resemblance between your son and you (as well.)

Jeanne - so nice so see you. You must share with me your best (and easiest) cheese making receipe. Oh, and do I need a cow?

Yellowdog Granny - yep, it's been a tad bit warm in these here parts. Now that California is on fire, the smoke is unbearable, unbreathable, murky and stings my eyes. I bet your daughter has nice fresh air to breath over there in the Haight - I'm jealous.

Diesel - Agreed - living on that rock might be a bit uncomfortable on the fanny. A house on the cliff would be more fun. Today's smoke feels about as thick as that fog looks.

Hey Fred - Thanks! We are all just beaming away, just like your happy icon.

Dr. John - thank you so much for your comment. I have been waiting for this pregnancy for over 5 years - so it is twice as exciting :) I'm so happy!

Nessa - Great to see you. Those rugged ocean scenes just feed something in my soul. I too love that sense of power one gets standing above the crashing sea and feeling alive.

SOe - Maybe we shall all fall back on the olden days, when the price of gas was only a bale of hay to feed the carriage horse.

Sister Celtic - Sorry I've been such a horrible correspondent! We LOVE your beautiful book - and yes, because I jumped too soon to buy it we got the soft cover. I've had many ooohs and ahhhhs from our friends & family. It is a work of art.

Doug - I would accept that as a backwards compliment (to be likened to my Daughter in Law) - she's a beauty! Glad I'm not the only one off my rocker so to speak :) No worries - I like the old, less informed Doug just as well.

Congratulations to the new parents to be and to you too. Hope the murky air will clear up and you can breathe better soon.

These are wonderful news, congratulations!!!

I can very much picture how excited you are from your making clear your son is the one on the left. I know Tom and Doug have already pointed it out. I think it tells how happy you are. :-)

I love the other photo, too.

Red Mojo - It is truly some news to jump around about :)

Photowannabe - thanks. And yay - today is the first time I can sort of see a pale swath of bluish sky. The sunlight is still a sickly orange, like a weird future sci-fi movie.

Ariel The Thief: yeah yeah, I know... doting old grannies can't help their silly braindead moments in the heat of their joy. What are friends for if not to point out such lapses of intellect?

Ariel The Thief: Those rugged rocks were shrouded in fog, and it was gorgeous.
