In duet with IceGrapefruit's time changing building update, here is an American building in the California capital city of Sacramento, now with an old west facade restored... (only backward...)the buildings all around were being "renewed" at the expense of history-lost. Funny what "the people" really want... other "old" buildings were still standing, cool, authentic... with fire-escape stairs - rickety and made of old dry wood scaffolds stuck up against the old red brick buildings didn't garner any special notice as they were only noticable in less-traveled alley-ways...

Sometimes it costs more to repair and fix up an old building than to tear it down and build a new one.

Does Arnold have anything to do with that crap?

You still live in Paradise Terry!

Take Care....G

That´s the next thing to my beloved trees what I miss so much in Iceland - old buildings. Buildings made of bricks, sandstone, wood, ... They don´t have to have beautiful make-up which makes them look cheap restored in some cases. I was in Copenhagen, Denmark, two weeks ago - I love this city!

I know that building! I think the Service Employees International Union's state legislative council is in there.

"The California Fruit Buidling"? Is California so sunny that you can grow the fruit inside buildings there?

One of my favorite things is looking at old buildings. I love the details and architecture. Today's buildings lack all of the above. Most of all, they lack character!!

In my unexperienced eyes, which don't know what looks ok and what looks strange in your world that building looks great, I like the mixed way it is now. You'll often see old buildings with scaffolds here too. Just don't kick their sides!

I like the look of the building. I like the picture too. You can see the trees reflected in the windows.

I have a close friend in the 'burbs there (Citrus Heights). She's taken me to Old Town Sacramento. Is the one building you show her in that section?

I like it there.

Tom & Icy - and it oft times looks worse than the original to boot!

Galen - Arnold has his finger in a bunch of pies. California has places like Paradise - away from the cities. Just like Michigan :)

SOe - I love what you said about buildings with makeup... I agree. I too love old buildings, made of heavy stone, wood and bricks. Nothing fancy, just nice and authentic.

Doug - why doesn't it surprise me that you know everything?

G - LOL and that's not all they grow indoors here in California...

Jillie - For some reason in the US the old buildings aren't held dear as they are in Europe. Of course our "old" buildings are just tiny babies in the age scheme of things... just look at Stonehenge for example, or Pompeii ;) I'd sooner live in a wikiup or a mud hut than one of these modern "kings of ugly" stucco tract homes.

Ariel - your buildings have such character - I remember many of them I think would be cool to call home. They just don't build them like that any more.

Dr. John - nice observation about the trees. Trees are a gift to the eyes, and to our hearts. I also liked the reflections. I love the pictures you have posted so many times of old buildings and old scenes. Your place is like a walk through good memories.

Yellowdog - you would be in heaven in Hungary, where the gargoyles lay in wait on every cornice and turret. Some of them are butt ugly!

Annonymous - we looked for them at Frank Fat's but came up empty handed.

TLP - ah yes - you got it pegged! It is right at the entrance to Old Town, and is quite nice looking. My sister's in-laws live in Citrus Heights - nice moderate little town :)
