The stunning beauty of the fjord, laying so still before us as we drove up over the hill and then descended into the wide valley below exploded with thrills into my soul. I've looked away from these pictures many times, only to find that when I again stare at them, I'm stricken just as hard as I was when I first laid eyes upon the scene.

I have a fellow blogger friend - roughly my age, who up and moved from Australia to Iceland, after having spent one winter on the rock. She was gripped with the same intense love (obsession lol) with Iceland that I harbor, and then unlike me, took action - sold her home, packed up and moved, lock, stock and barrel to Iceland! True, she had a job skill to fall back upon, funding, and friends whose support she could rely on... but the truth is SHE DID IT. This gal has earned my complete respect, and undying hero worship due to the fact that she actually took action. Those of you who have read my blog for any length of time know that I've harped and whined about Iceland ever since I started blogging. That was about 5 or 6 years ago... duh... what a laggard I am. My dad (though he will never read my blog) told me once that I operate on "fear"... lovely. But I suppose it is true. Fear of failure, fear of ridiculous defeat - mostly fear of living underneath a bridge... but the lure of that fabulously beautiful country drives me still and who knows... Maybe I shall over come.

Iceland would be a great place to live under a bridge. Trolls have rights there.

By the way, do you know what those white, cottonlike flowers are called? They're really cool.

Doug, I'd gladly share my bridge with one of Iceland's trolls...

The neat cotton grass (bog) flowers are called Fifa.

Terry--having job skils, funding and support means a lot

Though I operate on fear also, and at a certain point in my life stopped whining about NY and left

Of course I became less interesting to blog readers but...who knew people love whining so much?

The photos are lovely--I can see why you love it so much

I feel the same way about Canada. May we both find the will to act and not regret.

Terry thank you for the kind words but the courage to make this journey was really 15 years in the making.

For many years I was not happy with my life...I was trapped very much within the fear of failure, staying within my safety zone and not moving forward. I have always been quite intuitive but often chose to ignore it. But about 15 years ago I decided to pay attention to my inner voice and to take baby steps and do the things that I always wanted to do, I decided I wanted to grow old without regrets...so I practiced the art of giving things ago...if it worked...fantastic...if it didn't, I know I learned something which would inform me for the next.

I hope you do eventually get here, even if it is just for another holiday, perhaps a little reconnaissance to further explore the possibilities, (remember baby steps), If you do visit again please make contact...I would love to meet you.

took action myself. I am not sure whom I am surprised more, anybody else or myself when I decided to move to Iceland. I just couldn´t stand myself anymore as I wasn´t able to get a job in Germany at that time. I did not know a thing (except black sand and that I could survive with English which I did not speak well at that time) about Iceland. For some reason I had to buy a flight back and so I said to myself: "Okay, let´s try it for a month!" Nearly 5 years later, I am still on that island. If you fear hights, just close your eyes before you jump ;-)

Very attractive. I would like to visit Scandinavia someday. I'm pretty well of the opinion that all pasty white people (like me) have Scandinavian roots. I looked waaaay back in my family tree and discovered that I was related to some Scandinavian royalty waaaaay back in my history. Now I must demand the tribute that is due me!

I hope that this is the year the crow jumps on an eagle and flies to her dreams.

oh, i understand! I am obsessed with Iceland! and I have yet to go. But I will, when I can spend some time there. I am looking right now at a Lonely Planet book of Iceland that I keep in easy reach on my shelf.
*sigh* - soon...
