So much dark moisture in the clouds - ...such a thirsty desert below, never receiving the wet drops...
Albeit a little blurry - the view from my car window while driving from Reno, Nevada to Walnut Creek, California was fabulous and beautiful. The temperature outside was about 85 degrees... hot.
There was cold white snow on the mountain sides...

Wow, those black clouds floating over the desert are fascinating.
So much water with none to drink.
I love opening up to this view of mountains I had seen years ago and knowing that they have not much changed.
Ah, virga... I used to see that in AZ all the time.
I love your pictures!
when i was out west it was a strange thing to be there in july and yet encounter snow at the high altitudes.
Fantastic pictures of nature! What are those straight dark lines in the snow? A road?
XO
Beautiful photos!
I do love the look of virga sweeping over the prairie or desert.
Nessa - I found them fabulous as well. I love the drama of the desert.
Tom & Icy - You have such true observations. Your humor and wit reminds me of Mark Twain.
Mark - They have changed, but as you say not much. They are on mountain time, not man time.
Tom - How cool - I learned a new word today. I have always loved to see the rain evaporating before it hits the ground with its dramatic dark colors, but had no idea there is actually a term for it. Thank you!
Lime - I do enjoy living out here in the "west" ha ha - that conjures up images of cowboys and Indians :) The scenery is fabulous, especially in California where the ocean, deserts, forests and mountains are all located in close proximity to each other.
Ariel - That dark line is the train tracks leading through Donner Pass (you know, where members of the ill-fated Donner party ate each other). The train trip through the snowy mountains is really fun.
Anonymous - A Bear of few words.
McRaven - They don't do justice to the scenes...
EcoRover - That is one of my favorite scenes - but I just learned the term for it today :)
Yep, virga is the word for it. I never knew until I lived in Arizona.
